As we begin a new year, it is the perfect time to set yourself up for success by reflecting on your marketing efforts from the past year and refine your strategy to improve your approach and drive more meaningful results in the year ahead.
In this blog post, I’ve curated eight essential considerations for a quick and comprehensive DIY marketing review. From setting new goals to analysing past performance, revisiting your target audience, and reviewing your content and branding, these tips will ensure you're on the right track for a fresh start to the new year.
GOALS - Did you set any goals in 2023? If so, how did you do? Have any priorities shifted?
PAST PERFORMANCE - Analyse your marketing analytics from 2023. Take a deep dive into key performance metrics such as website traffic, conversion rates, social media engagement, and email open rates. Learn from both successful and unsuccessful campaigns, noting what worked well and areas that may need improvement. Use these insights to inform future decision-making.
AUDIENCE - Revisit your target audience and get to know them better. Analyse any changes or new trends in their behaviour. Are there any emerging markets or untapped demographics you could focus on this year? Understanding your audience better will help you tailor your messaging and offerings more effectively.
COMPETITORS – Take a look at your competitors too! Their online presence, content, social media activities, and advertising efforts. Identify gaps, opportunities, and potential areas for differentiation.
CONTENT - Review your content across all platforms, including social media, website, and print. Are your contact details up to date? Are your images fresh, relevant, and high quality? Have you covered all your current products/services? Is there any outdated information that needs to be removed?
DESIGN & BRANDING – Does your visual identity align with and tell a story of who you are as a business and what you have to offer your customers? Is your branding current and modern with a consistent look and feel across all platforms? This can help you stand out from competitors, attract new customers, build trust with your audience, and make your brand more easily recognisable.
BUDGET - Review your marketing budget and assess expenditures. Identify areas where you can optimise spending and reallocate resources to maximise return on investment.
SECURITY - Ensure that your digital platforms are secure. Consider changing passwords, adding extra security measures (such as two-factor authentication), backing up your website, and taking extra steps to keep yourself safe.
Wishing you a wonderful 2024!
